Primary objective

Under the direction of the Team Leader deliver child protection, family support, and statutory case management services to vulnerable children and their

families in remote communities. Provide professional expertise in the assessment and management of child safety concerns, contribute to workforce

development, and lead community engagement activities.

Context statement

The Remote Child and Family Safety Program provides place-based services in remote NT communities, integrating statutory child protection, family

violence response, and intensive family support within a culturally safe and trauma-informed framework.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Deliver evidence based and culturally competent casework and case management services in line with departmental policies and procedures to

vulnerable children and their families.

2. Work collaboratively with others to enhance the safety and capacity of families and communities to care for their children and young people.

1. Provide intensive family support where place-based intervention is the safest and most effective approach.
2. In partnership with families, undertake comprehensive strengths and needs assessments to identify case plan goals, which address the child safety

concerns for children.

1. Undertake statutory casework where it is determined that a place-based intervention is the safest and most effective approach.

2. Provide statutory case management services to children in stable long-term placements with kinship carers or departmental carers within the

community.

7. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate recording of information on client information and case management systems.

1. Demonstrate commitment to own professional development through active participation in professional supervision and required workplace training

and contribute to the professional development and learning needs of colleagues.

1. Foster and maintain a culturally safe workplace environment that aligns with the Aboriginal Cultural Security Framework, ensuring all interactions with

Aboriginal children, families, and the broader community are culturally safe, effective and ethical.

10. Participate in the Children and Families After-hours Service (Women's Safe House).

Selection criteria

Essential

1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association, Australian

Association of Social Workers, Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention AND Vocational

Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection) OR Graduate Certificate in Safe Communities (Child Protection).

1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures, and an ability to communicate and work

constructively and sensitively with people from diverse cultures.

1. Extensive experience in statutory child protection and family support practice, including demonstrating skills in conducting strengths-based

assessments and complex case management.

1. Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying legal frameworks related to child protection, including case work policies, procedures, and

statutory requirements, with the ability to apply professional judgement in high-risk, complex situations.

1. High level communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate outcomes, de-escalate conflict, and build collaborative

relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

1. Strong organisational skills, resilience, and ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining compliance and client confidentiality.
2. Demonstrated high level computer skills for accurate and compliant client file maintenance, including the ability to adapt to new systems quickly.
3. Current NT driver's licence or ability to obtain and ability to travel in 4WD or light aircraft and undertake travel including overnight stays.

Desirable

1. Five years relevant experience including at least six months experience working with children in care.

2. Knowledge of family violence in remote Aboriginal communities and the impact of family violence on extended family networks.

3. Previous experience of living and/or working in a remote Aboriginal community.

and related community services to vulnerable children and families residing in remote communities.

Context statement

The Remote Child and Family Safety Program provides place-based services in remote communities with an integrated safety and support focus

which combines domestic, family and sexual violence responses and interventions that are flexible and dependant on community needs.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Coordinate the administrative processes that support culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based service delivery to children

and families.

2. Support the preparation and collection of case management to inform comprehensive assessments, including risk assessments, safety plans,

and needs analysis conducted by professional staff.

3. Assist with administrative oversight of case planning processes, ensuring documentation aligns with statutory and departmental requirements.

4. Coordinate community engagement and consultation activities to strengthen service awareness and facilitate access to departmental programs

and supports.

5. Work in partnership with professional staff and team leaders in the coordination of complex service delivery responses, ensuring required

information, referrals and partner agency communication are in place.

6. Foster and maintain a culturally safe workplace environment that aligns with the Aboriginal Cultural Security Framework, ensuring all

interactions with Aboriginal children, families, and the broader community are culturally safe, effective and ethical.

7. Participate in the administrative aspects of after-hours service support and Women's Safe House coordination as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Experience in administrative support, client services or case coordination within community or statutory environment.

2. Experience in interpreting and applying policies, procedures and legislations relevant to child protection, with sound understanding of child

protection service systems, administrative case management process, and statutory frameworks.

3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures, and an ability to communicate and work

constructively and sensitively with people from diverse cultures.

4. Understanding of trauma-informed practice principes and family violence risk factors, with the ability to exercise sound judgement when

managing sensitive case information and applying policy requirements to complex client situations.

5. High level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate outcomes, de-escalate conflict, and build

collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

1. Strong organisational skills, resilience, and ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining service standards and client confidentiality.
2. Demonstrated high level computer skills for accurate and compliant client file maintenance, including the ability to adapt to new systems
