EnergySEA is a proudly Australian-owned, ISO accredited engineering company based in Sydney, Australia, with a strong presence across Australia and New Zealand. We are committed to supporting the local industry through local project delivery, Australian-based engineering, and a robust network of trusted global partners.
Our partners represent the world's best brands in high voltage infrastructure, from grid studies, component design and supply. Our local operations encompass engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning, ensuring complete lifecycle support to clients across the utility and renewables sectors.
About the role
As an Engineering Manager at energySEA, you will lead the engineering function across HV projects (including HV substations) in Sydney and Regional Australia. You will manage a small team, provide technical and delivery leadership across design, construction and commissioning, and maintain strong interfaces with clients, Network Service Providers (NSPs) and delivery partners.
Working closely with the Project Director, you will drive safe, compliant and on-schedule outcomes by aligning engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning activities through the full project lifecycle.
You will provide oversight across primary, secondary and civil/structural scopes, ensuring design intent is translated into buildable packages and that testing, energisation and handover are delivered to required standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team delivering HV substation projects (greenfield and brownfield) across Sydney/NSW.
* Own engineering delivery from concept and detailed design through procurement support, construction support, testing, commissioning and energisation.
* Provide technical governance: design reviews, hold points, calculations/coordination, interface management, and independent verification where required.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary scopes (primary plant, protection & control, SCADA/telecoms, earthing, civil/structural, interface works) to ensure an integrated design and safe constructability.
* Manage engineering interfaces with NSPs (e.g. Transgrid and distribution network operators), clients, OEMs, EPCs and construction partners; ensure timely approvals and responses to technical queries. This includes bringing together all parties in the commissioning chain for a power plant by managing the complete R2 testing process to registration.
* Oversee key deliverables including specifications, drawings, functional design specifications, protection settings philosophy, testing/commissioning plans, ITPs and as-builts.
* Support the Project Director with programme development, resourcing, change management, risk/opportunity management and reporting.
* Drive outcomes across safety, quality, schedule and commercial objectives, including lessons learned and continuous improvement.
About You
* Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline); CPEng/RPEQ/RPEV (or eligibility) highly regarded.
* Demonstrated experience delivering HV substation projects and/or energy infrastructure projects within the NEM, including exposure to NSP requirements and outage planning.
* Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle: design development, procurement, construction support, testing, commissioning, energisation and handover.
* Working knowledge of relevant Australian/NSW standards and practices for HV substations (including safety in design, earthing, protection, SCADA/telecoms and testing).
* Proven people leadership experience—coaching engineers, managing performance, and building a collaborative, delivery-focused culture.
* Well-developed stakeholder management and communication skills, able to resolve technical and commercial interface issues pragmatically while maintain a strong customer focus.
* Commitment to HSE leadership and quality management, including risk-based decision making and strong documentation discipline.
