Offer description

**About AV**

AV has 5 residential homes across Bendigo and is one of the largest programs we run. It goes without saying that we invest heavily into the support, wellbeing, development and opportunities we offer to our Residential Youth Workers.

We know it can be a tough gig but at the same time are equally as motivated and driven by achieving positive outcomes for young people that care for, which ultimately makes this role one of the most rewarding you can do in the industry.

**About the role**

If you've clicked on the advert, you know what the aim of a Residential Youth Worker is. It's about fostering positive relationships, providing a nurturing and safe home environment, supporting your colleagues and being a role model for young people in care.

There are also the elements of homemaking, administration, crisis management, organisation and everything else that comes with supporting young people in a home environment.

Check out the Position Description for a more specific overview of the day-to-day duties available here:
**What makes this role better than the others?**

We spoke to our current, established team of Active Night Residential Youth Workers in Bendigo to learn the **reality** of what it's like to work for AV, why they joined and stay and the important things to that matter when considering a role like this. This is what they had to say:
**Flexibility** - Working a fixed, rostered 7 shifts over a 2-week period really does allow for a solid work life balance. There's always a chance to get stuff done during the day when you're off. It also works well having every other weekend off so social life doesn't suffer either. When it's quiet on shift you can get so much done too, look after the house, do your paperwork or even catch up on study when time allows.

**Earning** - The penalty rates you get for working active night shifts are great. Earning much higher than a standard day time position.

**Support** - There's the after-hours team who are always available, as well as all the other active night staff who are only ever a phone call away. The Team Leaders in Bendigo are also very responsive, existing Active Night staff have said _"We feel like we can reach out any time. We also get supervision and fortnightly team meetings, so you aren't just left to it."_

**Day to Day** - Working at night is perfect if you want to work at your own pace. You also find that the evening and nighttime spent with the young people increases your chance to build rapport. It's time you can spend 1 on 1, having impactful conversations that you don't often get during the daylight hours.

**Training** - All new staff undertake a paid 2-day induction, as well as training opportunities through the year. One of these is paid four-day Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training that all staff undertake and we employ when working with our young people. You also get shadow shifts at the start of your role to help you settle in, meet the young people which is a great way of settling in and feeling confident, whether you're a seasoned resi worker or new the industry.

**The Important bits**
- SCHADS level 3 with all the penalty rates associated to night shifts,
- Fixed roster with 7 shifts each fortnight,
- Bendigo based location,
- Salary packaging is available up to $15,900 plus an entertainment card,
- Ongoing supervision,
- Supported Top Up Training enrolment if required,
- Ongoing training opportunities including opportunities to undertake paid TCI training,
- A diverse and inclusive workplace for you to feel safe, acknowledged and included.
