Primary objective

Provide effective weed management services through the development, coordination, administration and implementation

of weed management activities including strategic control, eradication, survey, compliance and extension programs for

stakeholders in the Tennant Creek/Barkly region. Please note that while some aspects of the position may require spraying

of weeds, it has broader key responsibilities.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Aid in the development and implementation of weed management activities within the Barkly region through technical

advice and assistance to stakeholders in accordance with the Tennant Creek Regional Weeds Strategy.

1. Assist in the development and implementation of strategic weed control programs, including the preparation of weed

management plans at property, catchment and regional scales.

3. Inform land managers of their legislative responsibilities under the Weeds Management Act 2001, implement monitoring

and inspection programs, and perform compliance and enforcement duties as required.

4. Conduct and support the collection and upload of reliable weed data by following recognised weed data collection

standards and mapping practices.

5. Participate in strategic control of priority weed infestations, including setting eradication targets and undertaking related

duties within the Barkly Region.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent, or relevant experience in a field of technical

work closely related to integrated weed management and/or natural resource management.

2. Ability to partake, plan and implement field trips in remote parts of the Barkly region and demonstrated ability to manage

work programs, specific projects and work effectively in remote localities for extended periods.

3. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills necessary for effective delivery of extension and compliance

services and proficient report writing.

4. Experience in the delivery of weed management advice, and in the development of weed management plans.

5. Ability and willingness to exercise powers under the Weeds Management Act 2001 or similar legislation and undertake

other enforcement activities as directed.

6. Experience in integrated weed management and the safe use, handling and application of a broad range of herbicides and

knowledge of NT flora.

1. Proven ability to work autonomously with direction as well as in small teams for overall work unit outcomes.

2. Current NT Class C Driver Licence or equivalent and ability to drive a manual vehicle.

Desirable

1. Experience in the field application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for

weed mapping and planning.

2. Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
