Work Health, Safety & Environment Officer

Docklands, Australia

Are you a proactive and collaborative WHS professional passionate about fostering safe, sustainable, and positive workplace environments? Join our Systems team to lead WHS&E activities that drive organisational safety culture, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.

* Remuneration: Band 4 - $89,184.51 - $111,200.77 + superannuation + generous NFP salary packaging options up to $18,550
* Full-time (1.0 FTE) maximum term role until 13 February 2026.
* Docklands office location - Hybrid; WFH (2-3 days)

You will be part of the Systems team, working closely with the Quality & Risk Manager, WHS Committee, Team Enviro Committee, and senior leadership to ensure the organisation meets its health, safety, and environmental responsibilities. This role combines strategic planning, compliance oversight, staff training, and cultural change leadership to embed WHS&E best practice into daily operations.

Your week will include a diverse mix of tasks such as conducting risk assessments, implementing WHSE policies, leading incident investigations, coordinating emergency procedures and safety equipment, chairing WHS and environmental committees.

We are North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN), Victoria's largest independent, locally governed and run, not-for-profit PHN, dedicated to improving primary health care in Melbourne's northern, western and inner-city areas. We help people stay well by commissioning health services to deliver better and more accessible primary care.

* Coordinating WHS&E activities including hazard identification, risk assessments, and compliance monitoring.
* Developing and implementing policies and procedures aligned with legislative requirements and organisational strategy.
* Chairing WHS and Team Enviro Committees, driving actions, and fostering a positive safety and sustainability culture. Coordinating meetings and taking minutes where required,
* Leading emergency preparedness activities including drills, warden coordination, and safety equipment maintenance.
* Delivering face-to-face WHSE training for staff and ensuring accurate training records and materials.
* Providing strategic advice on WHSE resource allocation and continuous improvement initiatives to Executive.
* Collaborating with external agencies, contractors, and building management to ensure compliance and safety standards are met.
* Leading initiatives to transition NWMPHN towards becoming a beyond carbon neutral organisation.

About you:

* Formal qualification (Cert IV or higher) in WHS or recent relevant WHS&E experience with practical knowledge of legislation and standards.
* Confidence using digital tools and Microsoft Office to support WHSE activities
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage staff at all levels and build safety culture.
* Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
* Proven ability to prepare clear, concise reports and contribute to strategic WHSE improvements.
* Experience facilitating cultural change and embedding safe and sustainable work practices.
* Experience in an office-based, multi-disciplinary environment with an understanding of compliance frameworks is desirable.
