We are hiring a Production Manager for one of our high performing pig farms. We are a progressive family business that has been a leader in the SA pork industry for decades. Top Multiplier is a 1000 sow farrow to finish modern farm supplying quality pork to multiple customers across Australia. Position Description and Function
Reporting to the Group Pork Operations Manager, the Pig Production Manager's main objective will be to achieve and improve on current farm production targets and motivate and train staff creating a cohesive and productive team environment.
Activities, Duties and Responsibilities
Pig Production Operations
Operate in an autonomous leadership capacity manage farm production
Implement all day-to-day operations of the farm
Plan daily work schedules and roster labour to achieve goals
Maintain production targets in each section
Monitor ongoing performance to achieve KPI's
Ensure animal welfare, quality systems and farm bio-security are maintained
Liaise with farm advisors including veterinarians, nutritionists and genetic companies
Implement programmes to maximize production and quality
Maintaining APIQ certification or other relevant industry compliance
Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures are followed and up to date
Assist the Maintenance team and Operations Manager with planning and scheduling farm maintenance or repair as required to buildings, machinery and equipment
Diagnose and repair faults identified and modify work schedules as required.
Coordinate with the Operations Manager for ordering supplies and managing work plans.
Leadership
Provide strong leadership, mentoring, guidance and accountability to farm operation staff, with a focus on building a high performing team
Direct and coordinate all activities to develop and implement long term goals and objectives
Manage the cost of production within your sphere of influence
Provide regular reporting and communication to management
Plan rosters and schedule labour for weekends and public holidays
Ensure labour efficiencies and fair rostering for all staff
Train and mentor staff to build skill and develop the team within the farm operations
Lead a workplace culture where staff are valued and committed
In conjunction with the Group Managing Director and Operations Manager, implement and monitor staff performance and conduct performance reviews
Ensure the highest compliance to Work, Health and Safety (WHS) standards
Employee Specifications
Education & Training
Post-secondary education in intensive animal production or agriculture
Current Driver's Licence
General Skills & Experience
5 years plus pig production experience
Experience in all aspect of pig husbandry including breeding, farrowing, weaners and grower
A broad understanding of livestock production systems
Understanding of pig reproduction, animal health and welfare
Demonstrated experience working in high performance teams
Extensive experience supervising staff and working within a medium sized team
Experience in problem solving with feed systems and pig farm equipment
Computer skills with spread sheets and farm management software
Some mechanical knowledge
Physically able to cope with the demands of a hands-on production management role
Flexibility to ensure production targets and animal welfare are maintained
