Primary objective
Under the direction of the Business Manager and school leadership team, provide a comprehensive and efficient library
services and administrative support to students and teachers as well as maintaining school online systems.
Context statement
Centralian Middle School is a government middle school in Alice Springs. It has a multicultural enrolment of around 350
students, including approximately 65% Indigenous students. This position ensures that digital resources, learning
technologies, and library systems are effectively maintained, accessible, and aligned with curriculum and teaching programs.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage operations of the school's library service assisting and supporting teachers and students with information
services and reference enquiries, including the use of the library catalogue and on-line resources.
2. Maintain the library's collection in good order, process library materials, and complete other tasks to ensure the smooth
and effective operation of the library.
3. Maintain ICT hardware and software applications in the library environment and broader school.
1. Assist with organising school promotional activities such as the website, exhibitions, displays, promotional materials and
events to enhance the reputation of the school in the community.
5. Perform general administrative duties including the management of a communications database, word processing,
photocopying to assist staff with parent communication and research and lesson preparation.
6. Perform any other duties as directed by the Principal.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience of successfully managing digital tools such as a library loan system, database management
systems and web content editor software.
2. Proven ability to work within a cross-cultural school environment, interact effectively with people from diverse cultures
and successfully develop effective partnerships with parents and the community.
3. Ability to show initiative, use creative problem-solving skills, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
4. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of library procedures including circulation, cataloguing and the maintenance
and development of library resources.
5. Willingness and ability to liaise with staff to support teaching and learning requirements.
6. A current 'Working with Children Clearance Notice' or the capacity to obtain in a timely manner.
