We are representing a complex, multi-entity organisation seeking a highly capable Payroll Compliance Specialist for a critical contract role. Operating in a fast-paced environment, this organisation is proactively bolstering its payroll governance and preparing for upcoming legislative reforms.
As the Payroll Compliance Specialist, you will provide critical, short‐term support to ensure alignment with all regulatory requirements across both the employee and contractor workforces. Reporting to the Remuneration & Benefits Manager, you will be the subject matter expert driving compliance with Superannuation Guarantee, state‐based Payroll Tax, and emerging payday superannuation reforms. This is a delivery‐focused contractor role perfect for an analytical, independent professional who thrives on process improvement and mitigating risk.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure ongoing compliance for both employees and contractors, with a sharp focus on Superannuation Guarantee and state‐based Payroll Tax obligations.
* Review heavy volumes of payroll and expenditure transactional data to prepare precise calculations and mandatory reporting.
* Lead the organisational readiness for payday superannuation reforms by identifying qualified earnings, ensuring compliance with payment timing, and managing contribution processing integrity.
* Partner effectively with Payroll, Finance, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Tax, and Risk teams to ensure cohesive compliance strategies.
* Create clear, comprehensive documentation of methodologies and workings while contributing to sustainable system and process improvements.
To succeed in this role
You will be a self‐motivated and meticulous professional capable of working highly autonomously. You bring a wealth of experience, including:
* Proven expertise navigating Superannuation (OTE calculations, worker assessments) and Payroll Tax (state variations, relevant contractor assessments, and exemptions).
* Practical exposure to managing obligations across blended workforces (employees vs. independent contractors).
* A solid understanding of payroll systems, including how configuration and process design align with legislative requirements. Experience with Dynamics NAV (Navision) and PageUp is highly advantageous.
* Strong Excel proficiency with a track record of handling, reviewing, and extracting evidence‐based insights from large volumes of data.
* The ability to proactively gather information and communicate effectively across complex, matrixed environments.
Highly Desirable
Experience supporting organisational readiness for legislative changes (particularly payroll reform), a background in multi‐entity or multi‐state payroll environments, and experience collaborating with both on‐shore and off‐shore team members.
An exciting opportunity to step into an autonomous, impactful contract role where your specialist knowledge will directly shape the compliance landscape of a major organisation. You will have the platform to drive genuine improvements and tackle complex, highly rewarding data and compliance challenges.
