Primary objective
Lead and manage Community Corrections operations across the NT, ensuring statutory obligations of the Department are met and
the safety and the security of the community are maintained.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage Community Corrections operations across the regions providing strategic direction, develop and implement
plans and policies to achieve a sustainable community corrections service for the Territory.
2. Contribute to the strategic direction and priorities of the Division, and lead and coordinate the business planning, strategy
development and budgetary process for the Division and ensure alignment with objectives of the Department and Government.
1. Ensure the directorate operates within legislative frameworks and initiate amendments to the legislation to give effect to
government policy and business improvement.
4. Manage the evaluation, review and audit of policies, procedures and standards for the Division to improve performance and
outcomes and ensure compliance.
1. Oversee and manage complex major projects, to achieve strategic objectives.
2. Provide both specialist information and high level strategic and policy advice to the Chief Executive Officer/Commissioner,
Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and key stakeholders on a wide range of justice and community corrections
issues and initiatives.
1. Represent the Department at senior executive level in relevant forums and develop and enhance liaison with stakeholders from
community, non-Government and Government to ensure a high level of understanding and active support for community
corrections initiatives.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated management experience at a senior level and a record of achievement and initiatives in a justice and/or human
services field (or related discipline) and the management of human, physical and financial resources.
2. Extensive experience in developing, coordinating and evaluating complex policy and strategic initiatives across a portfolio
consistent with Government objectives.
3. Highly developed relationship and influencing skills evidenced by the skilled management of diverse and complex stakeholder
relationships, including the Indigenous community, and proven ability to negotiate and influence politically sensitive policy
outcomes.
1. Demonstrated high level of knowledge of the social and justice issues affecting Indigenous people and their impact on the
development, implementation and delivery of correctional services. Ability to interact with people from diverse cultures.
1. Knowledge of Community Corrections programs, and of contemporary justice theories.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or relevant social or behavioural science, preferably at post graduate level.
2. Experience in the delivery of court mandated programs and knowledge of issues which may impact on service delivery.
Further information
Successful applicant must hold a manual Northern Territory Driver's Licence and may be required to travel within regional and
remote communities and camp out when required. Travel may be by means of road and air, including on outback roads in four-
wheel drives, light aircraft and boats. The Department of Corrections has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke
anywhere on departmental premises, facilities or in vehicles, nor whilst working off-site. The preferred applicant/s will be required
to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and the successful applicant/s will be required to undergo a criminal history check
(confirmed by fingerprints and name check) prior to commencement of employment. An adverse criminal history will not necessarily
