Senior In-House Legal Counsel role at Mills Oakley partnering with the CEO and firm on strategies, procurement, risk, and compliance.
About Us
Mills Oakley is a leading national law firm with a proud history spanning over 160 years. In that time, we've grown into a Top 10 Australian law firm by size while remaining true to our shared vision of exceptional client service with a friendly and collaborative ethos. Mutual trust and respect are at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior In-House Legal Counsel with at least 8 years' experience to join Mills Oakley in the Melbourne office. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and forming part of the senior management team, you will play a critical role in supporting the firm's operations, risk management, and strategic decision-making.
Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
* Work alongside the CEO to offer strategic advice and ensure legal considerations are embedded into business decision-making processes;
* Collaborate closely with the Risk Management Committee to proactive identify, assess and mitigate legal risks. This includes advising on risk, compliance, and regulatory issues affecting the Firm;
* Draft, negotiate, and review a wide range of commercial contracts and procurement agreements and provide strategic legal advice on corporate and commercial matters;
* Create and continuously update Firm policies to comply with the regulations set nationally;
* Drive firm outcomes by offering practical, commercially-savvy legal solutions; and
* Oversee and mentor legal staff, fostering a culture of excellence and professional growth.
Who We Are Looking For
This opportunity bridges the gap for private practice lawyers seeking an in-house role, while benefiting from the infrastructure and prestige of a leading national firm. Lawyers with experience in in-house roles will also be considered, though must have recent private practice experience.
You will work directly with the CEO, contributing to high-level decision-making and strategic planning. You will have strong front-end transactional experience and be commercially minded with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. The successful candidate will have proven expertise in procurement, contract negotiation, and risk management. The ability to engage and collaborate with C-suite executives is essential.
What We Offer
We take a collaborative approach to your learning & development, giving you the personal attention and unique opportunities required to help you realise your full potential. We are committed to your health and well-being and offer a multitude of employee benefits including:
* Dress for your day;
* Discounted health insurance;
* Employee Assistance Program;
