What you'll be doing
1. To provide a high quality diagnostic anatomical pathology service to the Children's Hospital at Westmead, and other Public and Private Hospital clients, at the level expected of a staff specialist.
2. To assist in the supervision and management of the Histopathology laboratory, including ensuring maintenance of quality standards in accordance with NATA and NPAAC requirements.
3. Participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities commensurate with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
4. Eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
5. Demonstrated experience and competence in paediatric Histopathology practice, with competence in a broad range of paediatric surgical pathology, frozen section diagnoses, and paediatric cytology specimens
6. Demonstrated expertise in paediatric and perinatal autopsy practice, and placental surgical pathology
7. Demonstrated personal qualities including effective written and verbal communications skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development, and ability to work both collaboratively and as a team leader
8. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management and continuous improvement and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes
9. Demonstrated commitment to basic, applied or clinical research and/or medical education and staff training
10. Demonstrated willingness to take on higher level administrative duties within the department as delegated by the Department Head, with demonstrated experience or willingness to participate in departmental management roles.
Applicants must have completed the COVID-19 vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. ASARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) 2 primary doses are required for Category A positions (refer to NSW Policy Directive PD2023_022 ). In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant. Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.
