We're seeking an experienced Automation Testers (APS6 equivalent) to join a multidisciplinary team delivering high‐quality digital solutions within an Australian Government environment.
Role overview
* Estimated start date: Wednesday, 01 July 2026
* Extension options: Up to two extensions of 12 months each
* Location: ACT
* Working arrangements: Onsite
* Flexible work: Remote arrangements may be considered on a case‐by‐case basis, subject to business needs. Candidates must clearly state their preferred work location if outside ACT/Canberra
* Maximum hours: 40 hours per week
* Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline (Prefer Active Clearance)
About the role
As an Automation Tester, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, accessibility and reliability of digital solutions. You will work closely with business and technical stakeholders across agile and traditional delivery environments.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Create and manage test plans and testing strategies, including automation test plans using Azure DevOps
* Write, review and execute test cases for web‐based applications
* Prioritise testing activities and manage test execution effectively
* Work within multidisciplinary teams to analyse specifications, user stories and requirements
* Log, track and manage defects and issues using departmental tools, including Azure DevOps
* Provide input into testing strategies and support the adoption of automation testing practices
* Test digital solutions for conformance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
* Lead and engage business stakeholders throughout the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) process
* Contribute as a team member within agile and traditional delivery frameworks
* Undertake other testing‐related duties as required
Application requirements
Candidates must submit a one‐page pitch (up to 5,000 characters) addressing all selection criteria.
* Demonstrated experience and expertise in automation testing and system/application testing
* Strong capability in developing complex test artefacts, including test plans, cases and test strategies
* Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross‐functional delivery teams
* Experience working in fast‐paced agile environments with distributed teams
* Strong knowledge and understanding of WCAG conformance testing
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including engagement with non‐technical stakeholders
* Experience developing test plans and cases for custom applications, including Azure and Microsoft technologies
* Experience tracking and managing test plans and test cases using Azure DevOps
* Experience leading or supporting User Acceptance Testing activities
