The Finance team is responsible for the integrity of the financial information of the business and the custodian of shareholder value. This includes accounting, all facets of financial reporting, Non-life and Life actuarial reporting, expense management and processing, capital management, investment accounting and tax accounting.
The division is a shared service function and it services all entities in Australia and New Zealand.
The Non-Life Actuarial Risk Management (
NLARM
) team is responsible for monitoring experience, producing quarterly reserve estimates for the business (Non-Life reinsurance and insurance) and preparing regulatory reports (Valuation and Financial Condition).
Where needed, we provide actuarial advice to the business as well as modelling and review support to the broader finance team, including for capital management and reinsurance purchasing. In addition, we play a key role in providing quality assurance of the results at a group and local level. We are a close knit supportive team who work together collaboratively.
Your Role
Actuarial Reserve Reviews (Quarterly and Year-End)
* Accountable for accurate, compliant and complete valuation outputs, including end‑to‑end reserving, IFRS17 results and Group/Local financial reporting. This includes review, quality assurance and technical actuarial support work across all valuation activities.
* Maintain efficient, well-governed valuation processes with strong review and control frameworks.
* Develop and maintain deep knowledge of reserving segments, models, data sources and processes, staying current with industry, regulatory and professional development.
* Partner with Finance to interpret and communicate key financial performance drivers to diverse stakeholders.
* Drive continuous improvement in reserving through efficiency, automation and enhanced insight generation.
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
* Build strong relationships with global colleagues to support Group frameworks, system implementations and reserve‑related reporting.
* Proactively manage stakeholders, balance priorities, resolve issues and ensure alignment across business units.
* Enable timely decision‑making with clarity of roles, responsibilities, escalation paths and accountabilities.
Actuarial Analyses & Business Support
* Support the Appointed Actuary and the broader actuarial team with:
* Preparing, reviewing and presenting Board, management and regulatory reports and formal actuarial advice.
* Provide leadership and technical expertise to deliver actuarial requirements in areas such as capital, reinsurance/retrocession, investment management and broader ad‑hoc project work.
* For specific legal entities and/or portfolios:
* Lead and contribute to actuarial assessments for new business due diligence and onboarding.
* Assist with underwriting and performance reviews, including investigation and explanation of key drivers.
Continuous Development & Training
* Continuously improve actuarial processes, focusing on efficiency, automation, insight generation and enhanced decision‑support for the business.
* On the job training and mentoring within the NL actuarial team and the broader Group reserving community.
Your Profile
* Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (or equivalent), and 5 yrs+ post qualification experience
* Extensive Non-Life reserving experience across multiple classes of business, including IFRS17/AASB17 expertise and analysis of results. Experience in specialty and/or reinsurance experience will be highly regarded
* Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Proven ability to collaborate within and across teams, fostering engagement and supporting the delivery of optimal business outcomes
* Exposure to broader actuarial disciplines, such as catastrophe and capital modelling (preferred)
* Ability to work flexibly within local and international teams to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
