About the Opportunity Our client, a leading global mining company, is seeking an experienced CHPP Control Systems Engineer to ensure the integrity, reliability, and performance of control systems across their Coal Handling and Preparation Plant operations in Queensland.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and optimising critical automation and control infrastructure that keeps operations running safely and efficiently. You'll play a vital role in fault resolution, change management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You'll Be Doing
* Monitor & Optimise PLCs, AVEVA Plant SCADA, PI Historian, and AVEVA Production Management (MES) systems
* Lead control system modifications through structured change management processes
* Perform advanced control loop tuning to optimise process stability and reduce operational variability
* Develop operational dashboards and reports to support real-time decision-making
* Troubleshoot and resolve system issues proactively to minimise downtime
* Maintain comprehensive documentation including logic diagrams, network architecture, and configuration files
* Collaborate across teams – working with operations, maintenance, engineering, IT, and external vendors
* Support plant shutdowns, commissioning, and upgrades as required
* Provide training and technical support to site personnel on control systems
* Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis and reliability initiatives
What You'll Bring:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
* Significant mining industry experience (coal sector highly regarded)
* Proven experience with PLC and SCADA systems (ideally Rockwell and AVEVA Plant SCADA/Citect)
* Experience in process control systems maintenance, alarm philosophy, and control coding
* Valid Driver's License
Highly Desirable:
* Queensland Electrical Licence
* Experience with PI Historian and AVEVA Production Management (formerly AMPLA)
* Knowledge of LV electrical systems
* IT/Networking experience
* Familiarity with PID control loops, telemetry systems, and instrumentation
* SQL Server, Report Manager, and Report Builder skills
* Coding experience (Python, C#)
* Understanding of Queensland Coal Mining Act and relevant safety legislation
