Permanent appointment from September 2026 or January 2027

As a diocese, we work closely with our 87 Church of England schools which, together, educate 14,000 pupils. Following the retirement of the current postholder, we are looking for an experienced professional with senior primary leadership experience to join our team, starting in September 2026 or January 2027. We welcome full- and part-time applications. This is an exciting time as we are also recruiting a Director of Education to start in September.

This post is both rewarding and varied and involves:

* Supporting governors in the appointment of headteachers
* Providing advice to governors on headteachers' performance management
* Supporting school with admissions policies and queries
* Planning and delivering training
* Visting schools and providing school improvement support
* Providing governance support
* Building networks across schools

If you love schools and can demonstrate the following criteria we would love to hear from you:

* Successful experience as a senior leader in primary education
* A proven track record of improving performance and delivering results
* The ability to meet the varying needs of schools, as part of a team
* A deep commitment to Church of England schools

We are an equal opportunities employer and the DBF is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory DBS check.

The care and protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in church activities is the responsibility of the whole church. Everyone who participates in the life of the church has a role to play in promoting a Safer Church for all.

Safeguarding is an integral part of the mission and ministry of the church in this diocese and is in line with our Growing in God strategy. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Jane Sheat, Diocesan Director of Education on 07884 232231 or at jane.sheat@cofesuffolk.org
