Connecting Lawyers with Opportunities in Energy and Construction - Associate Director @ Beacon Legal
Beacon Legal have partnered with an Australian renewable energy business who are a market‑leading developer, owner and manager of renewable energy and energy storage assets with a strong portfolio across Australia.
I am looking for a Senior Legal Counsel with a strong projects & front‑end construction background to support the dynamic and growing legal team. This role offers the opportunity to work across complex offtake, procurement and energy‑market matters in a company at the forefront of Australia’s energy transition.
This role will give you the chance to report directly into the General Counsel whilst engaging in impactful work with constant opportunities for professional growth. You will become part of a high‑performing, supportive and innovative team and be able to contribute to an exciting, fast‑paced industry.
About the Role
* Lead and support the negotiation, drafting and review of a wide range of commercial contracts, with a primary focus on offtake and procurement documents (including EPC, O&M, equipment supply and long‑term service arrangements).
* Advise on and negotiate landholder agreements and project finance documents; support on electricity market law and regulatory issues, and broader legal, risk and compliance aspects of the business.
* Provide ongoing contract management for key agreements, including management of any contractual disputes.
* Develop bespoke legal solutions for complex commercial arrangements and project challenges.
* Liaise with and manage external counsel as required.
* Work cross‑functionally with specialised engineers, business and finance professionals, building strong stakeholder relationships.
What type of person will be successful?
* Admitted as a lawyer in Australia with 6‑10 years PQE
* Practising as a projects/procurement/front‑end construction (preferably renewables) lawyer.
* Strong negotiation skills (technical and commercial) with excellent written and verbal communication.
* Able to take ownership and work independently within your skill set; hands‑on across the full project lifecycle (development, financing, construction, operations).
* Strong analytical, organisational and stakeholder management skills; collaborative, adaptable and self‑motivated; thrives in a high‑performing small team environment.
