Labour Ward Co‐ordinator

Location: Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS FT, Cross Site Doncaster and Bassetlaw, Armthorpe Road, Doncaster DN2 5LT, United Kingdom.

Band 7, Salary £49,387 to £56,515 per year pro rata.

Job Summary

Create an environment where patients are central to all decision making and the delivery of high quality compassionate care is the prime objective. Work cohesively across site to ensure safe staffing and leadership. Co‐coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of a defined clinical area on a shift by shift basis, acting as an expert resource to the MDT team and supporting delivery of high quality patient focused care, while ensuring all staff act in a professional manner and all registered staff are working as accountable practitioners. The Co‐ordinator role will be available on each clinical shift over a 24‐hour period Monday to Sunday.

Main Duties of the Job

* Liaise, guide and advise the multi‐disciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum maternity care.
* Be responsible for ensuring the environment and ward processes are responsive to the needs of women and their carers recognising the importance of privacy, dignity and diversity.
* Work in a clinical supervisory role, leading the team in service provision.
* Maintain high levels of visibility at all times to facilitate proactive communication with women, their families and carers.
* Demonstrate professional behaviour, coach team members to challenge competencies and create a culture of appraisals and personal and professional development, setting clear SMART objectives.
* Deploy staff in line with the trust roster policy, ensuring safe and appropriate midwifery care is provided at all times, comply with roster calendar and manage planned absences and staffing shortfalls proactively.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience – Essential

* Midwife with at least 3 years in a labour ward setting at Band 6.
* Demonstrates speciality expertise underpinned by theory.
* Experience of working with women with enhanced care needs.
* Evidence of being in charge of a shift.
* Ability to provide relevant advice to junior midwives and doctors on a variety of management and clinical issues.

Knowledge and Experience – Desirable

* Ability to co‐ordinate and manage obstetric emergencies.
* Evidence of change management experience.
* Evidence of the importance of debrief.

Qualifications and Training – Essential

* Registered Midwife with active NMC registration.
* Teaching/mentorship qualification.
* Neonatal Life Support (NLS) or willing to undertake the course on appointment.
* Provide evidence of continuous professional development.

Qualifications and Training – Desirable

* Masters in Midwifery.
* Managerial/Leadership qualifications and/or relevant experience.
* NIPE Qualification.
* Quality Improvement experience.
* PMA.

* Ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels.
* Able to promote equality, diversity and rights.
* Demonstrates excellent standards of conduct and behaviour, including punctuality.
