About The Role And Team
We have a new opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our national Finance team on a 12‐month fixed‐term contract. This is a national role, and can be based from any of our eight offices across Australia (Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Newcastle, Canberra, Adelaide and Darwin). The payroll team consists of the Payroll Manager and two Payroll Officers and forms part of the broader Finance team at Hall & Wilcox.
Responsibilities
- Processing the end‐to‐end fortnightly payroll for employees (approximately 1100), ensuring timeliness, accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This includes:
- Processing new starters, payroll changes, casual hours, overtime, backpays, deductions, bonuses and termination payments
- Managing and processing employee entitlements, including annual leave, sick leave, long‐service leave and other leave
- Managing employer funded parental leave payments
- Maintaining Government Parental Leave payments
- Management of leave processed in ESS (Employee Services Service)
- Processing superannuation contributions every fortnight in line with Payday Super legislation
- Assisting the Payroll Manager with monthly reconciliation and reporting
- Assisting the Payroll Manager with processing monthly and quarterly profit share distribution for partners
- Coordination of Myki commuter club orders and associated payroll deductions and documentation
- End‐of‐financial‐year processing, including firm‐wide remuneration review changes and final STP reconciliation
- Providing payroll‐related support to other teams within the firm, including responding to and resolving payroll queries
- General ad hoc reporting as required
- Other duties as requested by the Payroll Manager
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3‐5 years of experience as a Payroll Officer
- Experience processing a similar‐sized payroll (>800 employees)
- End‐to‐end payroll experience
- Experience with MicrOpay or Definitiv payroll system – not essential but preferred
- Sound knowledge of legislative requirements for statutory tax, Superannuation, Legal Services Award and Single Touch Payroll
- Strong working knowledge of Excel
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Ability to interact and develop relationships at all business levels
