Position Profile

Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital, The Rural Clinical School and WACHS (Goldfields) offer a unique training position for an Advanced Trainee in Paediatrics. The position is based in Kalgoorlie and includes acute, emergency, neonatal high dependency care and outpatient paediatrics experience. 50% allocation of time to teaching, research, academic and remote work. Opportunity to participate in remote area clinics.

Good communication skills and experience working with Aboriginal families would be beneficial. Suitable for someone passionate about Aboriginal and rural health, and planning a career in rural and remote paediatrics.


Responsibilities

* 24x7 roster sharing with other junior doctors as first on call, supported by consultant second on call, including some weekend covers.
* Inpatient cover for paediatric ward, maternity and SCN. Review of ED paediatric patients as required and admitting them.
* Outpatient clinic, remote clinic attendance including Griffith's clinic.
* Attend multidisciplinary team meetings fortnightly, ward review meetings and M&M meetings.
* Teaching of junior staff, hospital RMOs and medical students.


Qualifications – Essential

* Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.
* Enrolled in Paediatrics Training Program, Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent programmes and demonstrates satisfactory progression appropriate for an advanced trainee.
* Demonstrated current clinical experience in paediatrics and management of acutely unwell children and neonates.
* Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, with highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
* Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching of resident, nursing staff and medical students.
* Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance (Patient Safety and Quality), quality assurance, continuous improvement, and clinical research in paediatrics and adolescent health.
* Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal Cultural Respect Framework.
* Current C class driver's licence and willingness to travel including overnight stays.
* Experienced or interested in rural paediatric practice.


Qualifications – Desirable

* Possession of current Advanced Life Support, Advanced Paediatric Life Support or Emergency Management of Severe Trauma certificates.
* Demonstrated ability to monitor and review own effectiveness.
* Experience working with clients from a variety of cultural / ethnic backgrounds.


Salary

* Registrar Year 1-7 $152,756 to $203,909 p.a. pro rata* includes base salary $125,010 to $170,682 pa, professional development allowance $10,969 pa and 12% employer contributed superannuation.
* Senior Registrar Year 1-2, $223,525 to $233,666 p.a. pro rata* includes base salary $183,317 to $192,371, professional development allowance $16,259 and 12% employer contributed superannuation, pa pro rata.

*Salary effective as of 03/09/2025.
