About the role
This is a strong opportunity for a risk professional who enjoys being close to the business and influencing outcomes, rather than focusing solely on process or compliance.
As Manager, Line 1 Risk – Technology, the role partners closely with Technology and Data leaders to support effective risk management across the division. The focus is on fostering a proactive risk culture by providing pragmatic, commercial advice and helping teams understand and manage risk in ways that support sound decision‑making and delivery.
The role spans technology and data risk, with involvement across risk in change, control design, issues and incidents management, and regulatory obligations. Collaboration is central to success, with regular engagement alongside senior stakeholders, Group Risk (Line 2) and Internal Audit (Line 3) to strengthen the control environment and uplift Line 1 risk capability.
This is a hands‑on and influential position, with early involvement in change initiatives to help shape controls during design. The role contributes meaningful risk insights, supports governance forums, and plays an active part in continuous improvement across the three lines of defence.
For someone who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with practical execution, and who is motivated by helping teams deliver strong outcomes safely, this role offers both variety and impact.
About you
You are a confident and thoughtful risk professional who knows how to engage, influence and add value in a fast‑moving environment. You are comfortable working with senior stakeholders and can translate complex risk concepts into clear, practical guidance that resonates with the business.
You bring solid experience in risk management, ideally within financial services, along with a strong understanding of non‑financial risk in complex regulatory settings. You are naturally curious, with an ability to identify control gaps, understand root causes and strengthen processes in a way that is proportionate and practical, rather than overly complex.
You are analytical, organised and detail‑focused, while remaining pragmatic in your approach. You enjoy supporting others, contributing to a positive and sustainable risk culture, and helping teams build confidence in managing risk as part of everyday work.
Experience in Line 1 risk or a similar role, exposure to technology, data or cyber risk, and involvement in risk in change, control design, and issues or incidents management will be well regarded. Strong communication skills, the ability to build trusted relationships, and a collaborative, solutions‑focused mindset are essential.
Qualifications in risk, technology or business, along with relevant professional certifications, are beneficial. Above all, this role is suited to someone who brings sound judgement, curiosity and a genuine commitment to improving risk outcomes.
