A rare opportunity to join Australia's peak screen industry body and help shape the future of the Australian screen production sector. As Director of Commercial, you will advise on and advocate for strong and sustainable commercial outcomes for Producers and lead strategic initiatives to support and grow the production ecosystem.

Screen Producers Australia (SPA), is the national industry body that represents Australian independent film and television producers and supports the interests of businesses in their production of feature films, television programs, interactive content, and games across all genres and formats.


Key Responsibilities


Leadership in Commercial Affairs

* Build and nurture strategic relationships with key agencies, commissioners, financiers, unions, guilds, and global partners.
* Support our members in commercial dealings with funding agencies, financiers and commissioners of content, including by advocating and negotiating for better outcomes for Producers.
* Identify risks and trends in production deals and inform and support screen production businesses to navigate these.
* Lead strategic and educational initiatives to improve commercial deals and enhance opportunities for growth.


Commercial & Legal Advice

* Provide advice and support to SPA members on a broad range of commercial matters and business affairs.
* Assist members in their dealings with other industry stakeholders, including funding agencies, financiers, commissioners, distributors, unions, and guilds.
* Advise on contract interpretation, commercial risk, intellectual property arrangements, dispute resolution and regulatory compliance.
* Identify emerging commercial risks, as well as trends in production deals, rights management and production finance, and proactively support members to navigate these.


Member Value

* Enhance SPA's skills and professional development offerings to ensure commercial relevance and strong industry impact.
* Collaborate with Events, Marketing & Sponsorship on programs that deliver high‑value member experiences.
* Deliver engaging presentations, briefings, and masterclasses for members.
* Contribute to the development of best‑practice guidelines, toolkits and compliance frameworks.


About You

We're looking for someone who brings a rare combination of commercial acumen, legal expertise, and industry instinct. Ideally you will have:

* Significant experience in Business Affairs, Legal Affairs or in a senior commercial capacity within the screen sector.
* Legal qualifications are preferable, with experience in contract negotiation, regulatory compliance and/or IP rights management.
* Substantial knowledge of the screen production sector, including knowledge of deal terms, finance agreements and rights arrangements.
* Highly developed relationship and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong communication skills, including the capacity to give presentations, conduct industry meetings, and provide written industry advice.

We work hard and have fun and solve problems as a team. Staff will have access to a free onsite gym and a desirable office location in the heart of Surry Hills.


Requirements

* Must be available to travel to and work on the Gold Coast on 26 th April to 1 st May 2026 (flights and accommodation provided)
* Must have permanent working rights – sponsorship not available
* The role requires office attendance at the SPA offices in Surry Hills 4 days a week
