About the Role
We have an opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join the Litigation and Policy team at the Office of the Registrar General. Reporting to the Managing Lawyer, the Senior Paralegal will join a fast-paced team environment to deliver a range of administrative and paralegal functions to support the Litigation and Policy team, particularly in the area of property law. The right applicant will have experience drafting documents and preparing written answers to customer inquiries, be responsive, be a team player, take initiative and be willing to develop new skills.
About the Team
ORG is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the NSW land title system. It conducts litigation, prepares policy and legislative advice, regulates the concession of NSW's land titles registry and oversees providers of electronic conveyancing services in NSW. The Litigation & Policy team is responsible for conducting property-related litigation, providing legal and policy advice, and overseeing policy and legislative development in the area of property, land titling and eConveyancing law including the Real Property Act 1900, the Conveyancing Act 1919 and strata legislation. The team is also responsible for conducting compliance examination audits of subscribers to the electronic conveyancing system.
About you
This is a full time role. To be successful you will have experience working as a legal assistant, paralegal or lawyer, ideally in a litigation or property practice. Ideally you will have completed a law degree and have either completed or be competing College of Law. You will take initiative, pay attention to detail and work effectively as part of a team. ORG is looking for someone who can prioritise work in a high-volume environment to meet competing demands with conflicting and critical deadlines to maintain high-quality outcomes.
This role will involve:
* Providing a range of administrative and paralegal functions to support the efficient operation of ORG
* Assisting with preparation of draft correspondence, emails to customers, Ministerial correspondence, briefing notes, court documents and briefs to Counsel
* Acting as a professional point of contact with staff and key stakeholders by responding to written and verbal enquiries and providing information and advice in an effective and responsive manner
* Undertaking legal research
* Preparing and filing documents in Court
* Providing general administrative and business support, including creating and maintaining files, preparing reports, setting up meetings and taking minutes of meetings
* Maintaining accurate records in legal information systems in accordance with records management policies and procedures and confidentiality/privacy requirements
* Assisting with preparation of presentations, consultation papers and other stakeholder engagement materials, using Powerpoint, Excel and other Office365 tools
