About the Role
We are a well-established residential aged care provider in Melbourne seeking a General Accountant to support the financial operations of the business within a highly regulated aged care environment.
This is a hands-on professional accounting role requiring strong technical accounting skills, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to operate with professional judgement.
Key Responsibilities
The General Accountant will be responsible for:
* Preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports in accordance with accounting standards and aged care regulatory requirements
* Assisting with the preparation, monitoring and analysis of budgets and forecasts
* Ensuring compliance with internal financial policies, the Aged Care Act, and other relevant regulatory and reporting obligations
* Managing and reviewing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to ensure accuracy and timeliness
* Overseeing payroll processing and ensuring compliance with taxation and employment legislation
* Supporting internal and external audits, including preparation of audit documentation and working papers
* Liaising with internal stakeholders, external auditors, regulators, and funding bodies
* Analysing financial data and providing insights and recommendations to management
* Maintaining accurate financial records and accounting systems in a regulated care environment
Essential Skills and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent qualification
* Minimum 3 years' experience in accounting roles, preferably within aged care or another highly regulated industry
* Demonstrated experience performing professional accounting duties, including financial reporting and compliance
* Strong understanding of accounting systems and financial reporting processes
* High level of attention to detail and ability to work independently with professional judgement
Desirable Experience
* Experience with residential aged care financial reporting frameworks
* Exposure to audits and regulatory reviews
* Progress toward professional accounting certification (CPA Australia or CA ANZ) or equivalent
