The Role
Your role is to undertake financial analysis in support of finance business partnering for various Finance Branch’s, which sit within the Financial Performance and Management (FP&M) Division of Defence Finance Group (DFG).
As an APS 5 Financial Analyst you will combine your passion for finance with your stakeholder engagement skills. You will have an ability to analyse and interpret financial information, and be able to explain your findings to those with a non-financial background. You will undertake budget and management reporting, as well as assisting stakeholders to undertake financial tasks. You will work with others across the Group to understand issues, analyse financial results and communicate your findings to support enterprise wide decision making.
About our Team
FP&M Division consists of over 400 staff working in seven branches (including a Capability Costing branch), each managing around $6 billion per year, with embedded finance staff across the country working closely with business areas. Principally, the Division is responsible for delivering financial management information and advice to ensure Defence leaders can make well informed decisions. Think big numbers, many complex projects running in parallel, and close public scrutiny requiring carefully managed finances.
We are seeking to fill various vacancies within FP&M Division, to support the following Branches:
* Navy Finance Branch: Is a small and dynamic team working collaboratively with clients within Navy, the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), and the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG). The Navy Finance teams are geographically dispersed around Australia, supporting internal and external clients across the organisation, and dedicated to the provision of high quality financial services.
* Capability Advice and Analytics Branch: The team operates in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The team support Defence and Government making critical financial decisions on the future of Defence capability investment by providing Defence senior leadership with trusted independent financial advice and assurance on the Integrated Investment Program.
* Finance Air Force Branch: Finance Air Force Branch is responsible for providing finance support to Air Force. This includes providing budget management support and advice to business areas within the Air Force.
* Finance Army Branch: Finance Army Branch is responsible for providing finance support to Army and the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Group. This includes providing budget management support and advice to business areas within the Army.
* Finance Enabling Groups Branch: Finance Enabling Groups Branch is responsible for providing corporate finance support to the Associate Secretary Organisation. This includes Defence People, Security and Estate, Defence Digital Group and Associate Secretary Group (including enabling services such as data, business transformation, legal and audit). This includes providing budget management support and, financial reporting and advice to corporate business areas within Defence.
* Finance Specialist Groups Branch: The Assistant Secretary Finance Specialist Groups Branch is responsible for providing finance support to the following groups:
o Defence Intelligence Group
o Strategic Policy and Industry Group
o Defence Science and Technology Group
o Joint Operations Command
o Joint Capabilities Group
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will have commenced a career in accounting/finance in the private or public sectors with a range of skills transferable to Defence, including strong Microsoft Office skills with a particular focus on Excel. You will have strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement capabilities, and are naturally suited to explaining financial information to a broad range of stakeholders. You enjoy learning about the people and business areas you support, and like to help your clients solve problems.
You possess a positive “can-do” attitude along with great attention to detail and organisation. You take initiative and are able to operate under limited direction. You have a willingness to learn, an excellent work ethic and strong resolution skills. You cope well with change and are excited to contribute to ongoing process improvement.
