The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will, under teacher direction, assist in implementing specialised programmes such as occupational therapy, speech therapy and other therapies as required. You will help deliver planned education programmes, operate computers and digital technologies, and run individual student or small-group programmes or demonstrations. You will also provide feedback on programmes and participate in the evaluation of special education outcomes, coping well with frequent unpredictability as students have a wide range of needs.
Suitable applicants will be deployed within one of the contexts across the school, catering for a full spectrum of disability. Students with high/severe disabilities are accommodated for within specialised environments and those with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities are served in smaller classes in general learning areas.

Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education programme, including special education and therapy programmes where they have been implemented;
Demonstrated ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programmes, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programmes;
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents;
Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programmes and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists;
Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
