About the Role
The Infrastructure and Natural Assets Branch is responsible for delivering high‑quality maintenance, construction, and asset management services for all road and related infrastructure assets, including pavements, bridges, drainage systems, pathways, and street furniture.
The branch is committed to continuous performance improvement, driven by strong leadership and active employee engagement.
The Senior Project Engineer provides leadership and technical expertise in the planning, management, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects.
This includes road resealing, pavement rehabilitation, stormwater and drainage systems, line marking, and other related works.
The role is responsible for supervising project teams, ensuring program inspections, and monitoring contractor performance to maintain compliance with specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.
Primarily, you will:
Provide leadership in the delivery and coordination of Transport Network Operations branch's Road Resurfacing program
Provide high level technical engineering expertise, advice and assessment to ensure contract management and performance, budget management and reporting, safety, quality and environmental legislative compliance
Carry out high level, comprehensive procedural and technical investigations and negotiations, identifying the causes of technical issues and defects, and delivering appropriate courses of action to resolve managing key stakeholder relationships effectively
Plan, stage, estimate and deliver civil construction projects
Provide technical engineering expertise to the effective scheduling and program management of the delivery maintenance works and as required other infrastructure projects, underpinning council's road asset management strategy
Provide leadership to the assigned Program Inspectors to create a vision for enabling the effective performance management of contracts including budget, performance, safety, quality and environmental legislative compliance About You
As a professional in civil engineering, you will bring a blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and project management skills to deliver high‑quality infrastructure outcomes.
You will possess strong problem‑solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safety and organisational values.
Leading and managing civil construction projects, including road reseal and rehabilitation works
Overseeing major contracts, identifying and mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with standards and legislation
Motivating teams and fostering a positive, safety‑focused culture
Managing budgets, schedules, and stakeholder relationships effectively
Applying advanced technical knowledge of civil construction standards, WH&S, legislation, and quality systems
Using business technologies and corporate systems to support project delivery As a requirement of this role:
Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering with substantial relevant experience
Eligible or progressing toward certification as a Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) Our Culture & Employee Benefits
