The Opportunity
The Environmental Advisor plays a key role in supporting Austal’s Environmental and Sustainability compliance and strategy activities. They act as a vital resource for technical and advisory matters related to all aspects of environmental management.
This role involves implementing the Environmental Management System on a national scale and directly supporting HSE and Management Teams across various jurisdictions within the business.
This position is crucial for supporting future programs, reducing reliance on external consultants, and achieving environmental and sustainability goals.
What’s involved
* Develop, implement, and maintain Austal’s Environmental Management System.
* Ensure compliance and maintenance of ISO 14001 certification for applicable Business Units.
* Provide technical advice and support to the HSE team regarding environmental issues.
* Identify, assess, and support responsible parties for environmental aspects and impacts.
* Support accurate environmental performance monitoring.
* Advise senior leaders on environmental considerations for business decisions.
You’ll need
* Diploma of Environmental Management or related field.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Environmental Advisor or in a compliance role, preferably in a regulated industry.
* Strong knowledge of Environmental and Quality Management Systems, such as ISO 14001, 9001.
* Experience in data analysis related to environmental aspects.
* Familiarity with incident investigation methodologies like ICAM or Root Cause Analysis.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience conducting internal management system audits.
* Travel approximately 2 weeks per year.
* Knowledge of environmental legislation and compliance in Western Australia, Queensland, and Northern Territory.
* Understanding of risk management principles in high-risk environments.
* Internal Auditor certification.
* Ability to manage complex projects across functions and geographies.
* Experience in Marine Construction/Shipbuilding.
* Experience with ESG/Climate reporting.
