Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison Officer
Join Alfred Health to support Aboriginal children, young people and families in Southeast Melbourne.
Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education.
We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.
On 1 January ****, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.
The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives.
The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities.
Subject to final approval on 1 January ****, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
The Main Aims Of The Role Are To
Make it easier for Aboriginal children, young people, and their families to access youth mental health support, and improve their experience of Infant, Child and Youth programs through support and advocacy.
Support Infant, Child and Youth programs learning about Aboriginal culture so teams can provide better, more respectful and culturally safe services to Aboriginal people.
Support Infant, Child and Youth programs to provide culturally safe care in collaboration with ACCHOs, fostering strong partnerships through consultations.
Build partnerships with ACCHOs to ensure smooth transitions to and from acute mental health services.
Strengthen connections with local Aboriginal elders, community providers, services, and own mental health challenges to strengthen community ties and share knowledge.
Key Information About The Role
This is an Aboriginal-identified position.
The position is permanent, full-time with flexible ADO.
The role is based at Alfred ICYAMHWS in Moorabbin, with some travel required.
Classification is an Indigenous Community Development Worker YA36-YA54 (depending on qualification and experience).
Cultural supervision and support provided.
We Are Looking For Someone With
Experience of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The capacity to connect with children, young people and their families.
The ability to build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with services and organisations.
A relevant diploma or degree in a health or related field (e.g. Aboriginal Health, Mental Health, Community Development, Youth Work).
Excellent communication, problem solving and teamwork skills.
