Primary objective
Inclusion Advisors provide educational support, evidence-based advice and recommendations to staff and families in school communities and early
educational settings, catering for students with identified additional needs to enable them to access Australian curriculum and participate in appropriate
educational programs. Staff engage directly with schools and early childhood centres to ensure children/students who are deaf and hard of hearing are
supported to access education programs and strengthens the competencies of educators to support children/students with disability through the delivery
of evidence-based advice, differentiated support strategies and professional learning programs.
Context statement
Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Programs and Services (SWIPS) is part of Inclusion and Engagement Services, which provides differentiated support
services to reform inclusion and improve engagement and access to learning for children, students and communities. SWIPS provides advice, guidance and
support to clients and stakeholders to ensure all children and students are welcomed into an inclusive learning environment and are able to engage
effectively with education and learn to their full potential.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work within a Multi-Tiered System of Support framework to build the capability of educators to deliver inclusive learning environments and improve
education outcomes for young children and students with additional needs arising from health and/or developmental conditions that impact their ability
to learn, i.e. hearing loss.
1. Collaborate with Professional Practice Leaders and work across multidisciplinary teams to inform practice standards, facilitate place-based decision
making and ensure cohesive and place-based service delivery. This includes participating in the assessment of service requests from intake through to
allocation and leading service delivery planning for schools.
1. Provide evidence-based advice, differentiated support strategies, intervention programs and associated resources to assist educators to plan and design
inclusive adjustment programs for children, including partnering with non-government entities and across government agencies to ensure wrap around
support services for children and their families.
1. Deliver and/or facilitate professional learning to enhance the competency of staff and groups in all education settings and other agencies in cross-
cultural and multi-lingual contexts, including coaching, mentoring and online training
2. Gather and analyse data from a range of sources to conduct needs assessment and inform evidence-based expert advice and recommended actions
provided to educators and other stakeholders.
1. Manage an allocated caseload and participate in individual case conferences, ensuring detailed records are maintained and actions are carried out in
line with legislative requirements and the departments policies and processes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration, or ability to register, with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory, with a recognised qualification and/or substantial
current knowledge and experience relevant to all types of hearing impairment.
2. Leadership capabilities to guide others and influence differentiated courses of action, including negotiating persuasively to achieve beneficial outcomes
for involved parties.
1. Extensive and contemporary knowledge of relevant special education, inclusion and intervention programs, particularly within own area of expertise,
e.g. Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
1. Proven ability to work independently under limited direction, and collaboratively as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team.
2. Exceptional organisational skills, able to prioritise, plan and identify opportunities for continuous improvements.
3. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse professional,
cultural and linguistic backgrounds, which includes ethnic, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Desirable
1. Post graduate qualification in Special Education.

Corporate conditions apply to this position. The applicant must have or have the ability to obtain a current Working with Children Notice Clearance and
hold or be willing to obtain a current NT driver's licence. Visits to remote schools may necessitate travel by four-wheel drive vehicle on unsealed roads or
light aircraft and include overnight stays in remote communities of up to four days. Four-wheel drive training will be provided by the NT Department of
Education and Training.
