Full-time (1.0 FTE), fixed term position until June 2028
HEO 6 ($92,511 - $99,929) plus 17% Superannuation

Role Summary

The Maintenance Officer ensures the reliable operation of the Plant Accelerator's greenhouse and controlled environment facilities through hands-on maintenance and repairs. The role maintains HVAC, lighting, electrical systems and automated equipment, delivering both routine and reactive support. It also supports GM field site operations at Rosedale, including field trials, site maintenance and equipment upkeep. Working within strict safety and regulatory frameworks, the role collaborates closely with researchers, partners and contractors to minimise downtime and support high-quality plant research.

Work that matters

As a Maintenance Officer within The Plant Accelerator, you will play a critical role in maintaining and supporting nationally significant plant research infrastructure. Your work will directly enable cutting-edge agricultural research and industry collaboration, contributing to improved productivity and sustainability in Australia's unique and variable environment.

The team

The role reports to the Equipment Maintenance Manager and works closely with the Scientific Director and the PSBA Stewardship Manager. The Plant Accelerator operates as a service facility supporting academic and industry users, delivering high-impact outcomes for plant science and agriculture.

Experience

To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following skills and experience:

Qualifications

A relevant degree or electrical or mechanical trade qualification with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training

Experience

Experience operating and maintaining greenhouse and/or controlled environment systems, including HVAC, lighting, electrical, compressed air and hydraulic reticulation
Experience operating agricultural equipment such as tractors, seeders or harvesters
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work effectively within complex regulatory and compliance frameworks
