Marine biology graduate wanted for world-class tourism operation. Wavelength operates full day snorkel tours from Port Douglas to the outer GBR. The family-owned company has been operating since 1986 with a strong focus on best practice ecotourism, science/tourism partnerships, and high standard reef interpretation. We are looking for a marine biologist, preferably a recent graduate, to join our team. Candidates must have a Marine Science degree and strong in-water skills and experience as well as great people skills. Lifeguarding qualification or experience is a bonus. Boating experience, including driving small outboard boats is preferred, and tourism or hospitality experience is beneficial. We are looking for an enthusiastic, fit, engaging person. The role is well suited to someone who aims to further develop a career in marine science or reef management (previous staff in the role have gone on to work as marine park rangers or are following a marine science career). Permanent Australian residents are preferred. There is a roster with other marine biologists, giving a variety of roles depending on day. - snorkel guide, marine biologist guide or underwater photographer (training provided). Suitable candidates are encouraged to develop their skills in reef surveying techniques and join in our research program in partnership with universities. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience, have fun and gain in-depth knowledge of coral reef systems, including coral adaptation and rehabilitation techniques and latest research. The role is initially casual, aiming for 4 days per week on a flexible roster (10 hour days), with a permanent role available from July onwards for a suitable candidate. Pay is above award rates. Some weekend work is involved.
