Overview

Australian Department of Parliamentary Services – West Perth WA

The Parliamentary Services Department (PSD) has a new opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to support the governance and strategic functions of the Department.

PSD delivers support to the operations of the Parliament including the provision of security, ICT, facilities, visitor services, and corporate support. The role reports directly to the Executive Manager Parliamentary Services and forms part of the Executive Management Group.

Responsibilities

About the Role

The Governance and Business Improvement Officer will undertake a variety of specialist projects to support the Department in the areas of corporate governance; compliance and audit; policy development and review; strategic and operational planning; risk management; records and information governance.

The role requires someone with a high level of initiative, critical thinking, and strong stakeholder engagement skills. They will be capable of analysing systems, identifying opportunities for improvement, and delivering practical, high-quality outcomes. Integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality will be paramount.

The role is a full-time 12 month, fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension, however, applicants seeking part-time arrangements (hours from a minimum of 25 up to 37.5 hours per week, to be worked over five days) will also be considered.

Selection Criteria
* Highly developed critical, conceptual and analytical thinking, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex problems.
* Demonstrated experience providing advice on corporate governance, including reporting, compliance, risk and audit frameworks.
* Proven experience delivering business improvement initiatives and projects, including project management and reporting.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills, including negotiation and stakeholder engagement across diverse groups.
* Demonstrated capability in policy review and development, and in preparing reports, briefing notes and discussion papers.
* High level written and oral communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
* Ability to maintain political impartiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.

Highly Desirable:

* Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline (e.g., business, public administration, law, risk, project management, or equivalent experience.)
* Demonstrated experience in project management and/or risk management.
