Senior people services officer

Canberra
Canberra Institute Of Technology
Posted: 1 April
Offer description

Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is looking for an experienced Senior People Services Officer to join the People and Culture Branch.

What do we want?

CIT is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Human Resources (HR) professional to fill the position of Senior People Services Officer within our People and Culture Branch.

The Senior People Services Officer’s primary focus is to triage and respond to general HR related enquiries, provide strategic and operational recruitment support, and administer and process casual educator recruitment and payroll.

Operating under a Tiered Service Delivery Model, we are seeking people with experience across a wide range of HR functions to respond to, support and provide advice on general enquiries on such items as Human Resources policy, Employment Framework, EA interpretation, legalisation, payroll, and recruitment.

If you have previous experience working in a Tiered Service Delivery Model, responding to and resolving complex HR enquires, and have a strong background in recruitment and or payroll then we would love to hear from you.

What will you do?

As a member of the People and Culture Branch, the Senior People Services Officer will play a crucial role in providing recruitment and HR support across CIT operating under a Tiered Service Delivery model.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, People Services, the Senior People Services Officer will be responsible for providing high level advice to staff on best practice recruitment principles, Human Resource Policy, Employment Frameworks, legislation and Enterprise Agreements and their practical application to the general workforce.

This role is required to liaise with both internal and external stakeholders and provide sound and practical solutions, including designing resources, content and guides on best practice principles.

The Senior People Services Officer will be responsible for overseeing and management of the CIT Casual Educator registry, payroll and recruitment.

This role will be varied in its work, and in addition to being the front door to the People and Culture Branch, may be responsible for ad hoc project work, preparing briefs and reports, compliance reporting and employee engagement initiatives.

What do I need?

To be successful in this position you will need to have experience across a range of strategic and operational human resources activities, preferably as a human resources generalist, and/or specialising in recruitment and/or payroll.

An understanding of contemporary human resources practices, the ability to interpret complex information, provide advice to a wide range of stakeholders and excellent customer service skills are essential in this position.

Often this work is completed within tight deadlines and limited supervision, and as such the ability to work autonomously, prioritise work activities and problem solve are key skills required to be successful in these roles.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

* Experience in ACT Public Service or Australian Public Service and/or Education sector is highly desirable.
* Experience in recruitment and/or generalist HR management and working within a Tiered Service Delivery Model is highly desirable.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies that may arise over the next 12 months. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, flexible start, and finish times.
