A new and exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Midwifery Educator (CME) to join a close-knit team and to support the staff and mentor student midwives at a private hospital in Newcastle.
The role is a permanent full-time position, but part-time will be considered for the right applicant.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Clinical Midwifery Educator, your responsibilities may include:
- Working with the MSUM and Midwifery Educator to support our commitment to high level education and training;
- Clinical support and facilitation of undergraduate and postgraduate students of Midwifery programs;
- Facilitating the orientation and onboarding of new staff;
- Taking on a leadership role in providing hands-on educational support and clinical teaching to our clinical team, graduate midwives, and students;
- Assisting with competency assessments, learning plans and in-service presentation;
- Promoting a high standard of evidence-based midwifery care to all patients, through dissemination of current best practice knowledge;
- Ensuring employee compliance to Mandatory Training requirements and completion of eLearning components;
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in policy and procedure development, implementation and compliance.
REQUIREMENTS
As the successful applicant, you will possess the following attributes:
- Current AHPRA registration;
- Extensive post-registration clinical experience in midwifery, with no less than 6 years;
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in the birthing suite environment.;
- Certificate IV Workplace Assessment & Training (TAE) or working towards;
- Experience teaching and supervising students and novice midwives;
- Solid preceptorship and mentoring skills;
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service & communication skills;
- Demonstrated quality improvement activities and policy review/development skills;
- Intermediate computer skills;
- Hold a Valid NSW Working with Children Check(WWCC) for employment;
- Previous CME experience (desirable);
- Masters in Midwifery/Education (desirable);
- Demonstrated innovation in education program design and delivery using evidence-based practices (desirable).

ABOUT THE FACILITY
The hospital, located in Newcastle, is a 189-bed, acute, private facility with 11 theatres, including a hybrid theatre and a 15-bed Intensive Care Unit.
A cardiac suite includes a cardiac catheter laboratory and a 16-bed Coronary Care Unit.
A private maternity suite, including 6 birthing suites and a special care baby nursery, is available for families in the Newcastle region.
The facility provides specialty care for individuals and their families undergoing cancer treatment and care with an inpatient unit and a day infusion lounge.
