**The Role**
The Scientific Computing (SC) branch enables and accelerates Defence science and technology research and protects assets in DSTG's digital research environments. SC does this by provisioning and supporting scientific computing infrastructure that is well-managed, sustainable and scalable; continuing to invest in innovative centralised digital research infrastructure and services, while divesting commodity distributed ICT infrastructure and services; and developing new Scientific Computing practises and technologies.
As the Digital Science Visualisation Operations Specialist, you will lead a team which ensures a high-level of integration, continuity and consistency of services in support of the Defence Digital Sciences research capability. Visualisation technologies are highly specialised. This individual will lead a small team to develop a direction and create the capabilities for Visualisation Services to cater for the range of data analysis requirements of DSTG and Defence researchers.
This position reports through the Digital Research Service Management Directorate. The incumbent is accountable for the provision of a research data visualisation capability which enables research data analysis to be undertaken in ways relevant for the Defence environment and its strategic direction and ensures that Visualisation capabilities are accessible, efficient and effective in enabling researchers to use the complex computing capabilities provided for Defence scientific research.
**About our Team**
You work closely with peers to ensure a high-level of integration and consistency in the outcomes of the Defence Highly Specialised and Classified Research Visualisation Computing Systems Capability.
You and your colleagues develop and customise research ICT computing to enable scientists and researchers to get on with their job with digital science ICT being the indispensable means of achieving their outcomes. Contemporary computational research generates massive amounts of data. Visualisation is an indispensable means of being able to rapidly sort and display data in a number of ways to facilitate analysis and presentation of complex data for a range of audiences.
In the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group, you will enjoy Australian Public Service conditions which include an attractive salary package and flexible, family-friendly working arrangements. Our staff have access to flexible working hours with opportunities for home-based work.
We are looking for someone who knows how to build and sustain effective relationships with internal and external research partners across academia, industry and Government including, but not limited to Digital Science and Scientific Computing (DSSC) Directorates (with a strong focus on Computational and Data Intensive Sciences) to inform and advise the development of the Visualisation capability.
You will be practiced at managing and maintaining currency in the Science & Technology disciplines related to provision of complex scientific data visualisation capabilities to develop and mature the data visualisation capability for data analysis.
You will be a leader who can lead the development of customised solutions for the Visualisation systems to enable successful operation in conjunction with Computational and Data Intensive Sciences, Digital Research Futures and Digital Science Projects Directorates.
If you are passionate about Research ICT Visualisation for data analysis and you want to break new ground to innovate this discipline for a specialised research organisation, please apply.
