About the role:

We are seeking multiple full-time and part-time Technicians to join our busy Anatomical Pathology (Histology) team based at our Mile End Laboratory. You will work as part of an experienced and dedicated team with exposure to a wide diversity of work. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will ensure the highest standards of accuracy and service for our patients. As a Technician, you will enjoy a hands on, task focused role within a fast-paced environment where your role truly matters.

The department operates over morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. Team Members are required to work a variety of shifts Monday to Friday between the hours of 4am – midnight. Participation in the Saturday roster between 4am to 11pm may also be required. This schedule plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth flow of specimen processing and supporting patient care beyond standard business hours.

Your key responsibilities will include:

* Registration of Anatomical Pathology patient episodes into the laboratory information system
* Registration and preparation of cytology samples
* Paraffin processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining (including special stains) of surgical tissues
* Allocation of stained slides to the anatomical pathologists
* Archiving and retrieval of patient materials
* Assist in laboratory waste management and house-keeping tasks
* Preparation of laboratory reagents and maintenance of associated equipment fit for use

To be successful you will:

Essential

* Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written)
* Exceptional time management skills and able to work autonomously and independently
* Ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to communicate effectively with the Anatomical Pathology team, doctors, patients and with a high level of empathy
* Understanding of NPAAC and NATA guidelines governing the industry
* Understanding of WHS processes relevant to working in a laboratory environment
* Ability to be well organised, reliable and demonstrate a positive and professional attitude
* Be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and be confident in using computer programs
* Availability to work rostered shifts, Monday to Friday 4am – midnight, Saturday 4am – 11pm

Desirable (but not essential)

* Whilst tertiary qualifications are not required, candidates must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in working within a busy laboratory environment
* Any experience in embedding, sectioning and staining of surgical tissues in a busy laboratory setting will be highly regarded
