Jigalong is an Aboriginal community located 170 kilometres east of Newman on the edge of The Great Sandy Desert. On the western side of the Rabbit Proof Fence, this is the Pilbara community which gained international recognition with the 2002 film of the same name. Jigalong Remote Community School (RCS) is a K-12 school and part of the Remote Teaching Service. It is located just 2 hours drive east of Newman, where all essential services can be accessed. The school enjoys excellent relations with the Martu community.

Currently, the school has a team of 6 dedicated teachers, in addition to several AIEOs and EAs, a school officer, gardener, and a cook. Jigalong RCS has well-established routines and processes that facilitate a positive and safe environment for our students. Within the community of Jigalong, there are many service providers, including an excellent health clinic, a permanently staffed police station, a shop, a youth centre, and a ranger station. All teacher's houses are located in the same area, away from the centre of the community. It is a quiet and safe place to live.

The Role

Jigalong RCS is seeking a dedicated and skilled Intervention Teacher to join our team. This role is ideal for a primary-trained educator with strong literacy and numeracy expertise who is comfortable teaching across multiple year levels and adapting strategies to meet diverse student needs. The position plays a vital role in reinforcing foundational skills throughout the school and providing targeted support for senior students preparing for the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA).

The successful applicant will deliver structured intervention programs aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and OLNA standards. They will use diagnostic and formative assessments to tailor instruction and monitor student progress. The teacher will support students in building confidence and mastery of essential skills, helping prepare them for successful post-school pathways.

We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of literacy and numeracy development and experience or willingness to deliver the MultiLit program. Experience in remote or regional education settings is highly valued. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential to work effectively with classroom teachers and support staff and to ensure consistent and culturally responsive teaching practices.

A commitment to building positive relationships with students, supporting their wellbeing and engagement through strengths-based teaching, and demonstrating flexibility, initiative, and problem-solving skills is key to success in this role.
