The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally secure legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.
**What Will You Do?**
In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Criminal Law Practice. You will be providing high-level administrative support to solicitors in the practice, which include data entry and front office duties.
- Manage client files, data entry in the CMS database, and prepare for upcoming court dates.
- Provide reception and secretarial support, including phone operations and general office administration.
- Draft legal documents such as briefs, subpoenas, affidavits, and court reports using Microsoft Office.
- Liaise professionally with police, court staff, legal professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain a well-presented, functional office environment and ensure compliance with ALS policies and WHS standards.
- Support clients with non-court matters, demonstrate cultural respect, and work collaboratively with the team.
**Who Are We Looking For?**
A highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be able to demonstrate:
- Must Identify as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander
- Strong commitment to social justice and the ability to work in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) with accurate typing and data entry skills.
- Excellent communication, phone etiquette, and experience managing calls and messages.
- Strong organisational, time management, and multitasking abilities, with a high level of confidentiality.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with mínimal supervision; demonstrates effective problem-solving.
- Desirable: Experience in a legal practice or Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community organisation.
