Weed Scientist – Precision Technologies Description of Duties

The Research Fellow will play a key role in advancing a growing research program focused on the development and application of novel weed control technologies for Australian cropping systems. Working with a degree of independence and under the broad guidance of senior academic staff, the incumbent will lead components of research activities, including the identification, evaluation and integration of emerging precision technologies relevant to broadacre agriculture. They will be responsible for generating high-quality research outputs that demonstrate research excellence and contribute to the strategic goals of the program.
As an active member of the CSU-node of the Weed Management Initiative (WMI) and the broader Weed Science team at CSU, the successful applicant will contribute to designing, implementing and analysing field and glasshouse experiments, preparing scholarly publications, and producing reports for industry and funding partners. They will collaborate effectively with colleagues across the University and external partners to deliver research outcomes that benefit industry, regional communities and the broader agricultural sector.
The position will actively contribute to major research projects, including establishing and strengthening collaborative relationships with WMI research partners, technology developers, commercial providers and start-ups to support innovation within the weed science program. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will participate in the supervision, training and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students, fostering a supportive and productive research environment.
In addition, the successful applicant will engage in the broader research and scholarly activities of Charles Sturt University, contributing to enhancing the University's academic reputation and its engagement with industry, government and the wider professional community.

* Completion of a research higher degree (PhD) recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework related to weed science, agronomy, crop protection, biology, ecology or environmental sciences.
* Demonstrated experience in independently conducting field and/ or controlled environment-based research, including experimental design, implementation, data analysis and reporting, within a multidisciplinary research environment.
* Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with industry partners, research collaborators and professional networks to support the achievement of research objectives.
* Demonstrated track record of contributing to high quality, peer reviewed research outputs, including evidence of developing new or refined research methods or analytical approaches.
* Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate and targeted research communications for academic audiences, industry stakeholders, growers, agronomists and project partners.
* Sound understanding of relevant cropping systems, weed ecology, and contemporary weed management challenges in agricultural production.

Level A – AUD$80,046 to AUD$108,204 p.a. Level B – AUD$113,841 to AUD$134,965 p.a.
