About the role
This is a female-identified position, as per section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
- We are seeking a dedicated Case Manager to join our Family Support Program in Cairns, Queensland. This full-time position involves providing intensive case management and outreach support to families, focusing on strengthening family connections, improving parenting skills, and promoting the safety and well-being of children and young people.
- In this role, you will conduct initial assessments, develop and regularly review tailored case plans, and collaborate closely with families to address their unique challenges. You will provide practical, housing-focused support to women and children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping them to secure and maintain stable housing.
- The Family Support Case Manager is responsible for delivering specialist domestic and family violence responses to families, including completing risk assessments, developing safety plans, and collaborating with other agencies to ensure comprehensive support.
- This position reports directly to the Senior Practitioner, Manager, and CEO and operates within the guidelines and policies set by the Women’s Centre FNQ Management Committee.

Tasks & Responsibilities
- Record Keeping: Prepare and maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions throughout the case management process, including initial assessments, case notes, case plans, safety plans, and statistical data.
- Culturally Sensitive Casework: Provide informed and culturally sensitive casework, information, and referrals to clients, adhering to service requirements, values, and principles.
- Crisis Intervention: Offer appropriate crisis intervention and case management support, including delivering relevant information, completing referrals, and advocating for the families and women accessing the service.
- Resource Development: Develop and maintain professional client resources for use within the organization to enhance service delivery.
- Networking and Coordination: Establish and maintain networks and relationships to ensure effective service delivery and improve coordination in co-case management.
- Collaborative Environment: Foster cooperative internal relationships and contribute to a healthy, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.
- Team Participation: Actively engage in and prepare for supervision, team meetings, and case coordination to ensure alignment and effective support.
Qualifications & Experience
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Health or Human Services is desired, or equivalent experience in case management with vulnerable families.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in case management, family support services, or domestic violence support is highly desirable.
- A Blue Card (authorisation by the Commission for Children & Young People to work under 18 year olds) is required.
- Willingness to undergo a Police Check is required.
- Current drivers license is required.
- Computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office applications is required.
Selection Criteria
1. Trauma-Informed Services 
Demonstrated ability to provide trauma-informed, direct support to victims and survivors of domestic violence and their children. This includes skills in advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, parenting support, and connecting clients with appropriate information and referrals.
2. Client-Centered Case Management 
Demonstrated understanding and application of client-centered case management principles, including the ability to tailor services to meet individual client needs and promote empowerment and self-determination.
3. Understanding of Domestic Violence 
Demonstrated knowledge of the causes and effects of domestic violence, with an awareness of cultural diversity and the specific impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children.
4. Communication and Interpersonal Skills 
Proven high-level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to advocate effectively for clients, work collaboratively within a team, and liaise with government and non-government agencies to ensure quality client services.

- Salary: SCHADS Level 5.1 with salary sacrifice options available.
- Contract: This is a fixed-term 12-month contract position.
- Probation Period: Successful completion of a 3-month probation period is required.
- Work Schedule: Full time, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.
