About the role
Banana Shire Council is looking for a reliable and experienced Plant Operator to join our Maintenance Team in Taroom. In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for operating and maintaining various Council plant/equipment, carrying out general labouring tasks, and undertaking traffic control duties to support the maintenance and construction of roads, drainage and other civil infrastructure. You'll work under limited supervision and be part of a team that values safety, service excellence, and collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintain and service plant and equipment, in accordance with operating procedures
* Read and interpret basic plans and instructions
* Undertake traffic control and implement traffic control plans as required
* Perform general labouring duties
* Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties including providing and obtaining information
* Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position e.g. timesheets
You will have the following qualifications
* QLD Class 'C' driver's licence (HC licence highly regarded)
* QLD Construction White Card or Blue Card (General Safety Induction)
* Plant/Equipment Competencies e.g. Roller / Loader / Excavator / Grader etc
* Traffic Management Implementation Plan and Traffic Controller Licence is desirable
Highly Regarded Experience
* Experience in the effective operation of heavy vehicles within a maintenance or construction infrastructure environment.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment under minimal supervision
* Sound literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills and ability undertake Learning and Development opportunities, as required
* Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices
