The NSW Department of Education is seeking a Principal Enterprise Architect to join our dynamic, leadership-driven Enterprise and Solution Architecture team.
This technology-focused role leverages knowledge of education systems, technical platforms, design, and project experience, with the ability to influence and negotiate with non-technical stakeholders. Over time, you'll deepen your business acumen and understand how IT decisions impact the broader organisation.
You'll design and deliver end-to-end technology solutions that address complex business challenges and interdependencies, guiding architecture across enterprise and solution domains while sharpening soft skills to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
What you will do:
* Translate business requirements into robust architectural designs, collaborating with stakeholders across the organization.
* Craft high-level and detailed end-to-end designs spanning software, hardware, network, security, and integration.
* Capture and manage architectural knowledge in modelling tools and a centralized repository; identify bottlenecks and design scalable solutions.
* Define integration components, protocols, and interfaces aligned with a cohesive integration strategy, patterns, and framework for fit-for-purpose outcomes.
* Assess and compare technology options, frameworks, and platforms to ensure alignment with the target state architecture.
* Design solutions that meet non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, and policy adherence.
* Provide leadership across the software development lifecycle and guide teams to successful delivery.
* Engage stakeholders, managers, and cross-functional teams with transparent, trust-based communication, present concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
* Navigate complex consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders, balancing timelines, expectations, and competing priorities.

About you
* Extensive experience in application, enterprise, and solution architecture within a specific industry.
* Clear grasp of architecture frameworks, methodologies, and industry best practices.
* Proven track record delivering enterprise architectures for large, interconnected environments.
* Ability to translate business needs into actionable designs and roadmaps.
* Expertise in integration architecture (components, protocols, interfaces).
* Demonstrated SDLC leadership with influence without authority.
* Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
* Proficient with architecture modelling tools and repository management.
* Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent relevant experience.
* Strong understanding cloud hosted platforms (AWS/Azure)
* Certification in architecture framework TOGAF.
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
