We are seeking a strong Senior Mining Engineer to join our high-performing Underground Technical Services team at our KCGM Operations at the new Fimiston Underground Mine. This opportunity is offered on 8/6 roster, 12‑hour days, either residentially based in Kalgoorlie‑Boulder – the heart of the Goldfields, or Fly‑in Fly‑out (FIFO) from Perth. Reporting to the Underground Manager, the primary role is for the safe management and delivery of all engineering requirements within the Mining Engineering team. This challenging and dynamic role will enable an experienced senior mining engineer to lead a technical team of scheduling, project, drill‑and‑blast and graduate engineers, driving safe production from the operational team. With the additional functionality of exposure to Alternate Underground Manager if the candidate desires, this role paves the way to those looking for their next career step.
Your main responsibilities will include:
* Lead and mentor a team of Mining Engineers.
* Responsibility for the development of functional work plans and processes for the Mining Department ensuring production and strategic requirements are met.
* Review and approve production drilling and charging plans.
* Conceptualise, initiate, present and implement specific improvement projects including any production‑specific infrastructure projects required for productivity and profitability gains by the mine.
* Coordinate and manage the stope reconciliation process generating and keeping the required internal reporting records such as end‑of‑month and end‑of‑stope reconciliations.
* Work closely with operations and survey to prioritise and execute production activities.
* End‑of‑day reporting for all mining activities and compliance against schedule.
* Providing guidance and coaching to the Scheduling Engineers.
* Main point of contact to the Underground Mine Foreman for planning and executing the weekly plan and holding the technical team accountable.
* Accountability to ensure blast vibration monitoring, recording and reporting is compliant with site and statutory requirements of the site.
* Contribute and support the Underground Manager in facilitating LGIRS visits, inspections and investigations.
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
Experience: Minimum of 5 years UG hard‑rock mining experience. Experience using Deswik CAD and Scheduler packages. Advanced Microsoft Office skills. Experience working with a mining contractor. Experience in a mine that utilises Sub‑Level Caving, Modified Avoca or Sub‑Level Open Stoping. Underground Mine Rescue Experience. Experience using Power BI.
Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering. Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Driver’s Licence. First‑Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency.
Passion for Growth: Strong leadership skills and experience leading a diverse team of new‑to‑industry engineers. Ability to hold themselves and others accountable to their roles and responsibilities.
