The Infrastructure Operations (Data Center) team is the backbone of AWS, supporting the rapidly growing AWS business and customers 24/7. We are committed to maintaining the physical infrastructure of AWS, ensuring standards for operational performance in safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost.

Key job responsibilities
- Undertake and support management of both routine maintenance and emergency service of critical systems such as switch-gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, and fire systems.
- Installation of new rack capacity and provisioning of power/cooling.
- On-site management of contractors and vendors, ensuring work complies with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
- Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports and documentation of all aspects of critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance. Manage the facility's assets.
- Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for all facility-related events and assist in resolving infrastructure engineering and services issues.
- Collaborate with data center IT managers and other business leaders to coordinate day-to-day operations, projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
- Drive and implement projects to increase facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability and reliability; assist in the design, implementation, commissioning, and build-out of new data center facilities.

- Attend operational meetings to foster awareness of important activities across the Melbourne data centre region.
- Mentor and develop less experienced engineering operations technicians.
- Plan and schedule maintenance activities for critical infrastructure.
- Collaborate on solving complex engineering problems impacting critical infrastructure.
- Collaborate with other AWS data centre regions globally.

Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in facilities management, maintaining a datacenter or other critical space facility. Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Experience with, awareness of, and adherence to physical security protocol.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and web browser-based applications and tooling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other relevant discipline) or technical degree plus 4+ years of data center management/engineering/operations experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a data center (e.g., DRUPS, Transformers, Generators, Switch-gear, UPS, ATS/STS, PDUs, Chillers, AHUs, CRAC).
- Mission-Critical facility management experience for large enterprises or large Colocation providers.
- Experience managing vendors/contractors performing construction, maintenance, and upgrades in large-scale critical environments.
- Data center project management, capacity planning, and budget experience.
- Knowledge of IT services such as servers, networks, cabling, and security and safety awareness.
