Overview
Zero Digital Sports is a 24/7 Australian news agency that produces world-class digital sports platforms and premium outsourced sports content for clients around the world. The Melbourne-based Senior Editor will lead our team of sports journalists in the Cremorne newsroom, focused on continual improvement of editorial standards across Zero Digital Sports' content destinations, including ZeroHanger.com (AFL) and ZeroTackle.com (NRL).
This is the senior role in our editorial team. The successful candidate will have an established career as a senior journalist or editor in sports media or digital media and a network of industry-expert contacts.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Senior Editor will oversee journalistic processes and guidelines and coordinate editorial delivery across the brand’s three content pillars.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a growing team of 15+ writers
- Write and deliver high-quality content across Zero Digital Sports’ sporting websites
- Assign, proofread, and edit content prior to publishing
- Coordinate daily content schedules
- Generate new ideas and concepts for production
- Outreach to industry figures for quotes, scoops, and stories
The Senior Editor will coordinate daily cross-platform delivery and support across the brand’s three content pillars:
- Breaking and trending news content
- Feature, opinion, analysis, and editorial
- Lifestyle, culture, and industry content
Role and Requirements
- Demonstrably excellent language and writing skills
- High capacity with proofreading and editing
- Proven leadership, organisational, and multi-tasking capabilities
- Experience in the sporting industry or key sports media is essential
- Expertise in at least one of the AFL or NRL environments
- Digital marketing and communications experience (SEO, UX, analytics, graphic design, audio/visual, social media) will be highly regarded but not essential
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Journalism or similar is desirable
- An existing network of sporting contacts is highly regarded
