Senior Level Designer (Hybrid or Remote)
At Hipster Whale, we’re passionate about creating bright and funny arcade action games that appeal to broad audiences—games that players will continue to enjoy for years to come! We’re looking for a Senior Level Designer to join our team on an exciting project. Working with a small and talented crew, you’ll play a key role in creating new experiences on an action‑arcade title. You’ll design levels that challenge, captivate, and charm millions of players worldwide.
This is a full‑time, 6‑month fixed‑term position. The role offers flexibility for hybrid or fully remote work. If you are based outside Australia, a suitable work visa is mandatory. Australian candidates are required to have a valid visa.

Responsibilities
- Construct, test and iterate arcade game levels.
- Help find the pace, humour, and balance of tight arcade gameplay.
- Generate new concepts and ideas to enhance the user experience.
- Work creatively within an existing framework.
- Analyse player feedback data to improve usability.
- Maintain an understanding of industry standards, best practices, and trends.
- Use creative problem solving to resolve development challenges.
Requirements
- Proven working experience in the games industry.
- A portfolio showing levels you have built; we’re particularly interested in fast‑paced arcade gameplay but also welcome puzzle design.
- Experience working in a team workplace and a willingness to take on additional tasks.
- Good attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Unity.
- Able to incorporate feedback and give direction well.
- An enthusiastic love of platform games.
- A good sense of humour.
Bonus Points
- Scripting/programming skills.
