A leading defence engineering organisationsupporting major naval platforms is seeking a Senior General Design Engineer (Naval Architect) to join its Sydney based team. The business operates within a long‑term design support program for in‑service naval vessels and offers strong technical depth,stability and career longevity within the defence sector.
Your new role
Reportingto the Project Engineering Manager, you will provide senior naval architecture and outfitting engineering support across complex navalplatforms. This role combines hands on technical delivery with leadership, mentoring andcross‑discipline collaboration.
Key responsibilitiesinclude:
1. Delivering naval architecture engineering across general arrangement, concept design, weight control, stability,seakeeping, manoeuvring and ship performance
2. Providing outfitting design expertise including compartment layouts, structural closures, fire protection, deckarrangements, equipment foundations, ladders and platforms
3. Conducting technical investigations, rootcause analysis and solution development
4. Producing and reviewing high‑quality technicalreports and engineering documentation
5. Planning and coordinating engineering activities from concept through to delivery
6. Participating in design reviews and customertechnical meetings
7. Providing technical guidance, supervisionand mentoring to junior engineers
8. Workingclosely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure integrated designoutcomes
9. Operatingin accordance with WHS, environmental and quality requirements in a regulateddefence environment
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful inthis role, you will have:
10. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Naval Architecture, Mechanical or related discipline)
11. Proven experience in naval architecture andoutfitting design
12. Background working in a defence, maritime orheavy industrial environment
13. Knowledge of classification society rules,flag state and statutory regulations
14. Experience with ship structural design,foundations and systems integration
15. Strongwritten skills with the ability to produce clear, structured technicaldocumentation
16. Excellentcommunication and stakeholder engagement skills
17. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver ina high‑pressure environment
18. Eligibility to obtain and maintain NV1security clearance
