About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst to design and deliver high-quality reporting and analytics solutions that support evidence-based decision making across the department.
In this role, you will enhance and extend enterprise reporting services, leveraging curated and governed data from the department's data and analytics platform. You will gather and translate Business Intelligence (BI) requirements into well-architected BI solutions, developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise reporting to meet diverse business needs.
Working closely with business and technical stakeholders, you will ensure BI solutions are fit for purpose, scalable, visually intuitive, governed, and delivered within agreed timeframes in an agile delivery environment.

Key Responsibilities
* Design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualisations using curated and governed datasets.
* Extend and maintain existing reporting services to meet the needs of multiple business areas across the department.
* Consume, model, and curate data within the BI layer to create reusable, reliable semantic models and reporting datasets.
* Produce clear business, functional, and technical specifications for BI and reporting solutions.
* Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs, facilitate workshops, and translate business needs into effective reporting outcomes.
* Design BI solutions that align with enterprise data architecture, governance standards, and curated data platform capabilities.
* Apply strong UX/UI design principles to ensure reports are intuitive, accessible, and visually effective.
* Deliver end-to-end BI solutions, including design, build, testing, deployment, and support, within agreed timeframes.
* Provide support during UAT and address issues and defects in a timely manner.
* Ensure BI solutions meet data quality, performance, and reusability standards.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of BI practices, standards, and tools through research and recommendations.
* Work collaboratively within an agile delivery environment, maintaining high standards of quality, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
* Assist with business intelligence requirements and collaborate with data engineering teams to support data modelling, curation, and enhancements to curated datasets required for reporting.
About you:
To be successful in this role you will have:
* Experience designing and architecting end-to-end BI solutions aligned with enterprise data architecture, governance standards, and curated data assets.
* Strong understanding of BI architecture patterns, including semantic models, shared datasets, and reusable reporting layers.
* Ability to assess data availability, quality, and feasibility to inform BI solution design and delivery decisions.
* High-level proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including SSAS (DAX, MDX), SSRS, SSIS, Power Query.
* Strong experience in data modelling, semantic layer design, and data curation for reporting.
* Advanced SQL skills for analysing and reporting on curated datasets.
* Experience producing detailed business and technical documentation for BI environments.
* Strong UX/UI capability with a keen eye for report design, layout, colour, and usability.
* Experience creating complex visualisations and reports to meet diverse business needs.
* Experience with PowerShell scripting, Azure Databricks Analytics (data lake, pipelines, SQL, Apache Spark, Delta tables), CI/CD practices, including Azure DevOps.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Proven ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a deadline-driven environment.
* Proven ability to collaborate with data platform and engineering teams to ensure BI solutions are scalable, performant, and maintainable.
* Experience working within agile delivery teams.
About the Branch
The Information Management Branch oversees how data is collected, organised, distributed, and utilised across schools, early childhood education, corporate offices, and the Department. Focus areas include the Data Governance Council and custodianship model, ensuring accountability and stewardship of data; advanced analytics; Business Intelligence (BI); Artificial Intelligence (AI), including Generative AI (Gen AI); Master Data Management (MDM) for data integrity; and the use of data warehousing for effective data organisation. By collaborating with stakeholders, initiatives are aligned with departmental goals, fostering data-driven decision-making to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes for children and students.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
As our ideal candidate, you will have:
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science) or equivalent experience are highly desirable.
* Experience working in public sector or regulated environments.
* Exposure to enterprise data governance, information management, or reporting standards frameworks
* Experience with Tableau for dashboard development and data visualisation.
