Due to continued growth and an expanding project pipeline, we are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team and lead the preparation of accurate and competitive project cost estimates.
About the Role
The Estimator plays a key role in securing new work by preparing detailed cost estimates for engineering, fabrication, and construction projects.
You will review tender documents, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate pricing models while coordinating with engineering, procurement, and operations teams. This role requires strong commercial awareness and a solid understanding of fabrication, machining, and industrial project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare detailed cost estimates, tenders, and quotations for engineering and fabrication projects
* Analyse drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to determine labour, material, and subcontractor requirements
* Develop accurate pricing models including labour hours, materials, equipment, and subcontract services
* Identify project risks, assumptions, and cost drivers
Cost Analysis & Commercial Review
* Perform material take-offs and cost breakdowns
* Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
* Review project schedules and identify cost impacts
* Ensure estimates align with company margins and commercial strategy
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
* Liaise with engineering, project management, procurement, and workshop teams
* Support technical clarification during tendering and bid submission
* Assist with value engineering and cost optimisation
* Participate in tender reviews and client discussions where required
* Maintain and improve estimating tools, cost databases, and historical pricing records
* Review completed projects to improve future cost forecasting accuracy
* Contribute to improvements in estimating procedures and tender preparation processes
Skills & Experience
* 3-5 years' experience in estimating within engineering, fabrication, construction, or heavy industry
* Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, machining, and industrial project delivery
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
* Experience preparing large and complex tender submissions
* Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills
* Advanced Excel skills and experience with estimating or ERP systems
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Engineering degree or relevant trade/technical background
* Experience estimating projects within the mining or resources sector
* Knowledge of site infrastructure projects such as walkways, platforms, and structural installations
* Experience coordinating subcontractor pricing and supplier negotiations
