Dandenong Hospital has 8 Operating Theatres and cater for a wide variety of surgical specialities including orthopaedics, plastics, and obstetrics, and gynaecology, ENT, colorectal, maxillofacial and general procedures. With co-located medical and post-surgical wards, we support our patients through their stay at Monash Health.
**About the Role**
Theatre Technicians are an integral part of the operating theatre team. The theatre technician provides support to the Medical and Nursing staff to ensure positive patient outcomes are achieved. Whilst ensuring patient safety, the theatre technician to assist and support the team by ensuring all necessary equipment is available and operational, and patients are safely prepared and positioned for surgery. The Theatre technician provides efficient, high quality care in a patient focused environment through effective and committed teamwork. The theatre technician role varies depending on level of competency and skill set (as per Grade); but is responsible for:
- Patient transport to, from and within the theatre complex
- Positioning and preparation of patients for surgery
- Setting up each operating theatre with the speciality/ surgery specific equipment
- Ensuring all equipment is functioning and correctly maintained
- Cleaning and maintenance of equipment in accordance with Monash Health and manufacturers guidelines
**About You**
**Technical skills/knowledge/experience**
Grade 2:
- Has greater than twelve (12) months experience (full-time equivalent) working as a Theatre Technician.
- Undertakes work of a more complex nature rotating through all surgical specialities.
- Cert III in Health Service Assistance (Operating Technical Support) or equivalent
Grade 3:
- Certificate IV Health Service Assistance (Operating Technical Support) or equivalent
- Has greater than twenty-four (24) months experience (full-time equivalent) working as a Theatre Technician
- Works with a high degree of autonomy and accountability
- Demonstrated ability to work in all areas of the department autonomously without instruction (specialities specific to the site)
Grade 4:
- Certificate IV Health Service Assistance (Operating Technical Support) or equivalent
- Minimum of 36 months experience (full-time equivalent) working as a Theatre Technician
- Works with a high degree of autonomy and accountability
- Demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge and ability to work in all areas of the department autonomously without instruction (specialities specific to the site)
**Other position requirements**
As we support a culture of safety through employee immunisation, there must be documentation provided confirming completed immunisation on employment at Monash Health. Applicants who are new to Monash Health must provide evidence of immunisation before they can receive an offer of employment.
- Current and satisfactory Police Check (must also comply with Aged Care Act 1997 Accountability Amendment Principles 2012 if working in Aged Care setting)
- Current and satisfactory Working with Children Check (employee status).
- Applicants who are new to Monash Health will be required to enter into an Employment Agreement before commencement
